WHAT ARE PEOPLE WITH DIABETES DOING ONLINE?

Netnography research is leading to better understanding of Diabetes with the Lived Experience from the online communities around the world. We are sharing how new technologies and new meds are working from our side as persons with diabetes. The management, care, education, peer support is better from patient themselves. A better way of stating this is

“Netnography is a specific type of qualitative social media research. It adapts the methods of ethnography to understand social interaction in contemporary digital communications contexts”. Findings indicate that social media provides a significant source not only of moral support and camaraderie, but also critical education on thriving with diabetes. Importantly, we observed strong evidence of peer influence on patients' therapy and diabetes technology purchasing decisions.

From this we the Lived Experience and HCPs can learn more from online forums, social media, and blogs, to gain insights into individuals' behaviours, attitudes, and interactions within those communities globally. Living with the complications of diabetes is hard and awareness and prevention today is important in all communities.
