For Canarians, May is a month of double celebration.

We proudly celebrate Canary Islands Day while also honouring our European identity and the values that unite us with millions of citizens across our continent.

The Canary Islands are European by geography, history, culture and conviction. As an outermost region of the European Union, we know better than most that Europe is not only built in Brussels, but also in every territory that contributes to its diversity and strength.

Today, I proudly celebrate both identities.
