(ANSI A137.1 / ISO 13006).
Post caption (English):
Porcelain vs ceramic: the real difference isn't the name, it's the material.
Porcelain is made from a purer clay and fired at a higher temperature, giving it a denser body and a water absorption rate under 0.5%, per international standards (ANSI A137.1 / ISO 13006).
Standard ceramic tile absorbs more water -- roughly 3% to over 7%, depending on grade -- making it better suited to indoor spaces with less moisture and foot traffic.
In practice: porcelain fits outdoor flooring, bathrooms, and high-traffic areas. Ceramic works just as well on kitchen and bathroom walls and lower-traffic spaces, at a lower cost.
The difference isn't which one is "better." It's which one fits where it's going.
