Some souls do not simply pass through this world.
They leave traces of light.
Even after they are gone, that light continues to find its way into the hearts of those who were blessed to know them.
My adorable sister, Irene, was one of those souls.
As we approach one year since her earthly journey came to an end, I find myself reflecting less on the pain of losing her and more on the extraordinary gift of having shared this life with her. She was my sister, my best and closest friend, my greatest supporter, and one of God's most beautiful reminders to me that love, when it is genuine, asks for nothing in return. And I do believe in God, deeply.
We use the words unconditional love so easily.
Irene lived them.
She never measured what she gave. She never kept score. She never looked for recognition. She simply loved. Quietly. Genuinely. Completely. Her kindness was not something she did; it was who she was. She had a rare ability to make every person feel important, welcomed and deeply valued.
That kind of love is rare. That kind of love does not disappear.
It simply changes form. It still floods my life, my body, my mind, my spirit, my soul, my house, my office, my everything.
When Lambros told me that he would be establishing the "IRENE" Memorial Workout as an annual tradition, my heart was filled with peace. It feels profoundly right.
CrossFit was never just a place for Irene. It was a community she treasured, a place where friendships flourished, where she found joy, where she loved encouraging others, where almost all of her friends were to be found.
She also never missed an opportunity to share with everyone that her Lambros was the best trainer and coach, not only because of his knowledge and dedication, but because of the way he genuinely cared for every single person who walked through the doors of his GYM. She believed in him wholeheartedly and was endlessly proud of the community he had built.
How beautiful, then, that this community will now gather every year in her name.
The first "IRENE" Memorial Workout will take place this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Laniteio Stadium in Limassol.
If you knew Irene, come.
If you didn't know her, come anyway.
Come to celebrate a life that quietly taught so many of us what kindness, humility, faith, generosity and unconditional love truly look like.
I have come to believe that love is the only thing that death cannot touch.
And so, although I miss my sister beyond words, I know that every act of kindness inspired by her, every embrace, every smile, every encouraging word, and every step taken in her memory keeps that light alive.
Eternal is the light of a soul that chose love.
Forever my sister.
Forever our Irene.
