PROLAPSE IN CHICKEN
Poultry prolapse, or a prolapse vent in chicken is an avian anomaly wherein hen's vent or cloaca is inverted and pushed outside the body.
It is a life-threatening emergency caused by factors such as unbalanced nutrition, poor skeletal development, overweight, frequent laying of large, soft or double-yolked eggs and hormonal imbalances.
Quick sign and symptoms are protruding flesh, Blood streaked eggs and other birds pecking at the affected area.
Treatment and Prevention
⚡Isolate the bird
Move the affected hen to a quiet, warm and safe environment to prevent further injury from pecking.
⚡Warm water soak
Soaking the vent in warm water for 20-30 minutes can help relax the muscles.
⚡Lubricate
Gently apply liquid parrafin, petroleum jelly or olive oil around the vent to help ease the pr*****ed tissue back inside.
