Real estate firm's licence suspended and receiver appointed

The Real Estate Council of BC (RECBC) has suspended the licence of 8th Avenue Elite Realty Ltd., dba 8th Avenue Elite Realty ("Elite") in Surrey, and has frozen its bank accounts. The RECBC says it suspended Elite's licence in the public interest, as a result of the failure of the firm to account for trust monies held on behalf of clients.

Apparently there are somewhere in the region of 50 underground streams in the City of Vancouver. Once teeming with salmon and trout, they now run forgotten under houses and streets. If you are buying a house, it's always worth checking its location against the city's network of underground streams - having your basement flood or (worse) house collapse into a stream is usually an undesirable outcome.

When you are selling a commercial property or even a residential property owned by a company, you must collect GST on the purchase price. It is the obligation of the buyer to pay the GST. But it is the duty of the seller to collect it from the buyer and remit it to the Canada Revenue Agency. If GST is not collected, CRA will go after the seller first.

Top court rules judges may order witnesses to remove niqab - Politics - CBC News

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled today in a split decision that it's up to individual judges to weigh the rights of witnesses and the accused in deciding whether Muslim women can wear a niqab while testifying.

The provincial sales tax is returning on April 1, 2013. If you sell or lease taxable goods, or sell software or taxable services in the ordinary course of your business in BC, you need to register to collect the tax.
