After years of determined advocacy, Murphy Battista’s J. Scott Stanley and co-counsel have achieved a significant victory for British Columbians in a landmark class action against the Province of British Columbia and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC).

On May 15, 2026 the British Columbia Supreme Court approved settlements for both classes represented in the action: the Accident Victim Class and the Ratepayer Class.

The Court's approval brings closure to a lengthy and hard-fought litigation process and reflects Murphy Battista's commitment to holding public institutions accountable and advocating for the rights of injured people and British Columbians as a whole.

We are pleased to share that Keri Grenier, Janelle R. O'Connor and Kevin Gourlay will be speaking at the 2026 Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia Convention May 7 – 8th in Vancouver.

Keri is doing double duty as both co-chair of the event and speaking on "Lawyer’s Guide to Public Relations with the Media: The Art of Keeping Your Mouth Shut, and Knowing When Not To".

Kevin will speak on "Psychological Injury Without Policy Control Mechanisms: Where Canadian Law Now Stands" and Janelle joins a panel to discuss "Three Courts, One Story: Family Violence Across Criminal, Family & Tort Law".

In recognition of International Women’s Day, Murphy Battista LLP attended West Coast LEAF’s Equality Breakfast 2026 on March 8. The breakfast offered opportunities to connect with community members, friends, advocates and activists who share a passion for gender justice.

Every effort, big or small, builds the spirit of the day—making it powerful and inclusive.
