Financial interdependence can be important proof of relationship for a spousal sponsorship application in Canada.

IRCC may look at shared expenses, money transfers, joint purchases, insurance beneficiaries and other evidence showing how your financial lives are connected.

And remember, financial interdependence does not just mean having a joint bank account.

IRCC can request a spousal sponsorship interview and most people don’t find out this is possible until it happens to them.

A short relationship, limited proof of contact, inconsistent answers between you and your spouse, a significant age gap. These are all triggers. And if an interview is requested you will both be questioned separately about each other’s daily life, family, and relationship history.

A thorough file review before you submit is the best way to make sure nothing in your application raises that question in the first place.

Do you actually know if you qualify for Canadian citizenship right now?

Starting a full Canadian citizenship series. Part one covers eligibility: 1095 days of physical presence in the last five years, taxes filed for at least three of those years, English or French proficiency if you are between 18 and 54, PR status maintained, and no criminal or security inadmissibility.

Submitting before you actually meet all of these means your application gets returned and you start over.

IRCC uses UTC for all deadlines. Not your local time.

That means your deadline is earlier in the day than you think. Waiting until the evening to submit anything to IRCC is a risk you do not want to take.
This affects work permit extensions, study permit extensions, visitor records and Express Entry.

Always check your deadline in UTC and submit at least 24 hours early.

A marriage certificate alone will not prove your relationship is genuine to IRCC.

They want photos across different years, communication records, travel history together, evidence you know each other’s families. The full picture not just the paperwork.

How long do you actually need to live in Canada before you can apply for citizenship?

1095 days. Three years out of the last five. But the calculation trips people up.

Days as a PR count in full. Days before your PR count as half, up to 365 days maximum.
