You might be closer to Canadian citizenship than you think. 🇨🇦

Time spent in Canada before becoming a PR can sometimes count toward your physical presence requirement too.

That means students, workers and some other temporary residents may already have eligible days to count.

Before assuming you need to wait 3 full years after PR, check your actual physical presence calculation.

Save this for later because citizenship timelines are easy to misunderstand.

IRCC issued 3,500 ITAs in the latest Express Entry trades draw with a CRS cut-off of 476.

If you received an ITA, congratulations. Before you submit, make sure the work experience and CRS points you claimed can actually be supported by your documents.

No PR card yet? Before you travel, make sure you know how you’ll get back into Canada. 🇨🇦✈️

If you’re returning on a commercial carrier, you’ll generally need a valid PR card or PRTD.

The U.S. exception is different: if you’re legally able to enter the United States, you can travel to the U.S. and then return to Canada at a land border in a private vehicle, such as a car you own, borrow or rent, without a PR card or PRTD.

Bring your passport and proof of your PR status so CBSA can verify it.

Save this for your first trip as a new PR.

New PR in Canada? 🇨🇦 Don’t throw away your COPR or eCOPR just because your PR card arrived. This is one immigration document you may need again in the future.

Police certificate rules are NOT the same for every Canadian PR application. 👀

If you’re applying for spousal sponsorship, don’t assume the Express Entry police certificate rules apply to you.

For spousal sponsorship, you may need police certificates from countries you lived in for 6 months in a row or longer since turning 18, even if that was more than 10 years ago.

Always follow the document requirements for the immigration program you’re actually applying under.
