Sean Fraser, the minister of immigration, declared today that he will use his "discretionary authority" to halt the deportation of innocent foreign students in the instance of the false offer letter.

He made it clear, though, that Canadian authorities would still deport any foreign students who knowingly participated in the fraud.

IRCC today announced the first-ever launch of category-based selection for Canada’s flagship economic immigration management system, Express Entry.

Category-based selection will allow Canada to issue invitations to apply to prospective permanent residents with
specific skills, training or language ability.

Beginning on August 10, 2023, IRCC will begin accepting 4 new English examinations for Canada student visas under the Student Direct Stream (SDS).

Prior to SDS, the only accepted English proficiency test for a student visa to Canada was the IELTS general or academic.

These Tests are:
1. CELPIP General - The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program.
An international student with CELPIP general who has a study permit will be eligible to apply for permanent residency using the same test.
CELPIP score ranges from 0-12 and 7 bands each in listening, reading, speaking, and writing will be acceptable.

2.CAEL- The Canadian Academic English Language exam.
A score of 60 will be acceptable.

3. PTE- Pearson Test of English Academic.
A score of 60 will be acceptable.

4. TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language.
A score of 83 or above will be required here.

Sean Fraser, Canada's Minister of Immigration, has unveiled two new initiatives to support family reunification for both temporary and long-term residents.

A new strategy utilising cutting-edge analytics and technology will process TRV applications for family members of citizens and permanent residents within 30 days.

Regardless of whether they filed under the Family class as an overseas applicant or as a spouse/common-law partner in Canada, open work permits are available to spousal applicants and their dependant children.

Holders of open work permits whose present status expires by the end of 2023 will be able to extend their work permits for an extra 18 months starting on June 7, 2023.
