🇨🇦 BIG CANADA IMMIGRATION UPDATE (2026–2028) 🚨

🔥 Canada is shifting focus — fewer new temporary residents, and more chances for permanent residency (PR)!

📉 Temporary Resident Targets Reduced:
IRCC plans to welcome:
• 385,000 temporary residents in 2026
• 370,000 in 2027 & 2028
➡️ This means fewer new study/work permits being issued.

👷‍♂️ Temporary Foreign Workers:
• 230,000 in 2026
• 220,000 in 2027–2028
➡️ Canada wants to rely less on short-term labour programs and focus on long-term settlement.

📈 PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) Expansion:
• PNP target jumps to 91,500 PR spots in 2026 (up from around 55,000!)
➡️ Provinces will get bigger quotas to nominate foreign workers for PR.

🆕 33,000 Temporary Workers → PR Pathway:
IRCC will offer permanent residence to about 33,000 temporary workers already in Canada 🇨🇦
➡️ These will likely be workers with strong ties to the labour market and Canadian work experience.

🎯 Main Goal:
Reduce dependence on temporary programs and help more people settle permanently in Canada.

💡 What This Means for You:
If you’re already in Canada on a Work Permit or PGWP, this is your moment!
✅ Gain Canadian work experience
✅ Check your province’s PNP streams
✅ Talk to a Regulated Immigration Consultant (RCIC) about your best PR options

🚨 Visitor Visa vs. Visitor Record — They’re NOT the Same! 🇨🇦

Many people mix these two up, but they serve very different purposes in Canadian immigration.

✈️ Visitor Visa (TRV)
This is a travel document that allows you to enter or re-enter Canada.
It’s placed in your passport and only controls your ability to travel, not your legal stay in Canada.

🏠 Visitor Record (VR)
This is a status document issued inside Canada.
It shows how long you’re legally allowed to stay in the country and under what conditions.
It is not a visa and cannot be used for re-entry.

⚠️ Very Important:
If you leave Canada while holding a valid Visitor Record, your VR becomes null and void once you exit.
You will need a valid TRV to return — and you’ll receive a new entry document or stamp when you come back.

And remember — if your Visitor Record expires while you’re in Canada, your status also expires, even if your TRV is still valid.
A valid TRV without valid status does not allow you to stay legally in Canada.

✅ Always make sure:
• Your status (Visitor Record) is valid while you’re inside Canada
• Your TRV is valid if you plan to travel and return

Need help understanding or extending your stay? The team at Aurora Sky Immigration can guide you through every step. 🇨🇦✨

Don’t wait until the last minute to extend your status in Canada!

We see this all the time — people start panicking a few days (or even hours!) before their study permit, work permit, or visitor record expires. By then, your consultant or lawyer is racing against the clock instead of focusing on preparing the strongest possible application.

Applying early gives your representative enough time to gather documents, review everything properly, and make sure your application meets all IRCC requirements. It also avoids unnecessary stress and mistakes that can happen when you’re rushing to submit before midnight.

And here’s something most people forget: IRCC uses UTC time, not your local time zone! That means if you’re in Saskatchewan, BC, or Alberta — your “deadline” could actually be several hours earlier than you think.

✅ Apply early.
✅ Avoid last-minute stress.
✅ Give your consultant time to do their job right.

Your future in Canada is too important to risk by waiting until the last minute.

🔎 Clearing the Confusion: TRV vs. TRP

Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of confusion among applicants and even in conversations online about the difference between a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) and a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP). Since this comes up often, I thought it would be helpful to clarify:

✅ TRV (Temporary Resident Visa)
• A travel document placed in your passport.
• Allows you to enter Canada as a visitor, student, or worker (depending on your status).
• It does not guarantee entry—final decision is always made at the port of entry.
• Commonly referred to as a “visa” for coming to Canada.

✅ TRP (Temporary Resident Permit)
• A special permit issued to someone who is inadmissible to Canada but has a valid reason to enter or stay.
• Granted only in exceptional circumstances where the person’s need to be in Canada outweighs the risk.
• It can be valid for a short or longer period but is always discretionary.

💡 In short:
• TRV = visa to travel
• TRP = special permission if you’re otherwise inadmissible

Understanding the difference is crucial when planning your travel or immigration pathway.

At Aurora Sky Immigration, we help clients navigate these nuances so they can make the right applications the first time.

We’re so happy to share a recent success! 🙌

One of our clients was being emotionally and physically harassed at his workplace. No one should ever have to go through that while trying to build a life in Canada. 💔

We stepped in, documented his case, and applied for a Vulnerable Open Work Permit (VOWP) — designed specifically to protect workers in these difficult situations.

💡 The best part? His application was approved in just 14 days! 🚀

A big kudos to IRCC for making this program available and ensuring foreign workers are protected. Together, we can uphold Canada’s high employment standards and promote harassment-free workplaces. 🇨🇦✨

If you or someone you know is facing challenges at work, remember: help is available. 💯

📢 Do You Need a Medical Exam for Your PR Application After Receiving an ITA? 🩺🇨🇦

If you’ve received your Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Permanent Residence, you might be wondering whether a medical exam is required at the time of submission.

✅ Here’s what you need to know:

🔹 You typically don’t need to do an upfront medical unless the immigration officer specifically requests it after submission.

🔹 However, you must get a medical exam before submission if:
• You’re currently working in the healthcare sector, childcare, or primary/secondary education, OR
• You have a medical condition you disclosed in any previous immigration applications.

👉 While it’s not always mandatory up front, we highly recommend completing your medicals before submitting your PR file to help avoid unnecessary delays in processing.

💡 Need help preparing your PR file or unsure if you need a medical exam? Our team is here to assist and ensure everything is done right the first time!
