Canada has extended temporary immigration measures in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the evolving risk in neighbouring countries. ⚠️

⏳ The measures have been extended for another 60 days — until November 27, 2026.

🚫 The measures currently affect people whose last country of residence at the time of application was:

🇨🇩 Democratic Republic of Congo
🇺🇬 Uganda
🇸🇸 South Sudan

⚠️ Important: People affected by these measures cannot travel to Canada at this time — even if they already have an approved visa, permit or eTA.

📂 IRCC will continue processing affected applications, but applications will not be finalized while the measures remain in place.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner strongly opposes Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent suggestions of raising immigration levels, arguing that the Liberal government’s “reckless mass migration” policies have already pushed Canada beyond its limits.

She points out that, in just the first six months of 2026, Canada added nearly 286,000 temporary workers and international students—a population roughly the size of Saskatoon—which she says has placed severe strain on healthcare wait times, emergency rooms, housing supply, and provincial education systems.

🚨 11 MONTHS + 3 WEEKS IN CANADA… DOES THAT COUNT AS 1 YEAR FOR CEC? 🇨🇦

A lot of applicants assume that being almost at 12 months means they automatically qualify for the Canadian Experience Class.

❌ Not necessarily.

For CEC, you generally need at least 1,560 hours of eligible Canadian skilled work experience within the required period.

📌 Your experience must generally:

✅ Be in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3
✅ Be legally authorized Canadian work
✅ Meet the required work-hour calculation
✅ Be properly documented

⚠️ 11 months + 3 weeks is NOT automatically the same as 12 months.

And here’s where many applicants make a mistake:

👉 Don’t simply count calendar months.

Your actual eligible hours, work schedule, authorization and nature of employment all matter when determining whether you have met the CEC requirement.

🇨🇦 Before claiming CEC eligibility, calculate your qualifying Canadian work experience properly.

🇨🇦 🚨 WORK PERMIT REFUSAL? YOUR JOB OFFER MAY BE UNDER THE MICROSCOPE! 👀

A positive LMIA does NOT automatically mean the work permit is guaranteed. ⚠️

IRCC officers must still assess whether an employer-specific job offer is genuine under the requirements of R200(5).

🔎 IRCC looks at 4 key factors:

1️⃣ 🏢 Is the employer actively engaged in business?

2️⃣ 👷 Does the job make sense for the employer’s actual employment needs?

3️⃣ 💰 Can the employer realistically fulfill the offered wages, hours and benefits?

4️⃣ ⚖️ Has the employer/recruiter complied with applicable employment and recruitment laws?

🚨 Here’s the important part:

If an officer is not satisfied with even one of these genuineness factors, the work permit application can be refused.

📩 And if IRCC has concerns, the applicant may receive a Procedural Fairness Letter (PFL) requesting further information or documents.

💡 For employers: Your business documents, financial capacity, hiring need, contracts, payroll records and compliance history can become highly relevant.

💡 For applicants: Don't assume that a positive LMIA alone means the application is safe.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has hinted that Canada could eventually resume a “controlled increase” in population through immigration. 🇨🇦📈

After several immigration plans focused on reducing temporary resident arrivals and stabilizing permanent resident admissions, the government is now looking at when — not whether — to resume controlled population growth, according to Carney’s recent comments to The New York Times.

🔹 Canada’s current plan targets 380,000 permanent residents annually in 2026–2028.
🔹 Temporary resident targets have also been significantly reduced.
🔹 The government aims to bring temporary residents below 5% of Canada’s population by the end of 2027.
🔹 The 2027–2029 Immigration Levels Plan is expected to provide a much clearer picture of what comes next. 🇨🇦
