http://www.etsy.com/shop/ShhDollWorks I started Shh Doll Works after a 30 year career in the legal field.

Sewing was something I enjoyed early on and with the arrival of grandchildren found a passion for making fashion doll clothes. I have a focus on detail and the finish of the fashions I make. All fashions are made from new material and in a smoke-free environment. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy the fashions posted as much as I have had making them. I decided to do a few basic fashions: namely, a cotton skirt, t-shirt and tote - so a bit easier with more immediate results. I called these three sets "Market Day No. 1, 2, and 3". The waistbands were the hardest part of the actual fashion due to navigating the whole "bulk issue". The totes were fun as I had to go through my ever-growing fabrics' stash to pick which fabrics would coordinate best with each set. I was most pleased with the fabric for the tote with the jean skirt - I bought that Japanese cotton a few years ago and had since forgotten it. I think it's perfect with that particular set!

It was time I did a pantsuit. I opted for wide-legged trousers with vest in a pale pinkish-tan colour in a light wool blend. I had trouble picking a colour for the blouse, and finally settled on navy blue. The blouse gave me some trouble, this time it was the inset sleeve. The first sleeve went in easily, but for some reason I had trouble sewing in the other sleeve. Thank gawd for my seam ripper as it was put to repeated use! The purse is made with Ultra Suede - a perfect fabric for a purse at this scale!

I very much enjoyed shirring the previous yellow dress, so of course, I did it again. This gingham fabric has a soft lustre that doesn't translate in the photos. Still, this dress does exclaim SPRING!

"Island Holiday" sundress, hat and tote. I used a shirring technique to make the bodice of this little, and otherwise simple sundress. Shirring is a gathering method of sewing multiple rows of parallel stitching using elastic thread in the sewing machine bobbin, with regular thread through the machine's needle. It creates a very stretchy fabric. It took me a few tries to get this right (and some math). Despite the "fits and starts" to get what I wanted, I had a lot of fun making this fashion. Alas, the bottle of Champagne was not included with the sale 🥂

This is my second Alice in Wonderland based fashion. The hat, made from cardstock and adhesive vinyl, was a lot of fun to make. This is my first time using adhesive vinyl and was easier than I first thought. I used my Scan 'n Cut machine to cut the cardstock and the vinyl making the job mostly a breeze! For the pictures I pulled together a bunch of little "Wonderland" type items, then ended up cropping most of those items out of the photos! Plus items kept falling off and/or falling over during the photoshoot. Very frustrating! I called this set "Go Ask Alice".
