The Department of Law at the University of Rajshahi, in joint collaboration with the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), successfully concluded the "Lex Suprema International Law Moot Court Competition 2026" with a grand finale and prize-giving ceremony held on July 6, 2026 at the Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Senate Building.
The closing ceremony, presided over by Professor Dr. Syeda Anju, Chairman of the Law Department, featured a distinguished lineup of speakers including organizing committee advisor Professor Dr. Abdul Alim, Professor Dr. A. N. M. Wahid, and special guests Professor Begum Asma Siddiqua and Rajshahi Metropolitan and District Sessions Judge Md. Emdadul Haq, alongside a virtual address by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chief Executive of BELA.
The ultimate round challenged the finalists to showcase their skills through intense oral arguments based on this year's complex moot proposition, "The Centurian Sea: Maritime Boundary Delimitation, Freedom of Navigation, Environmental Protection and Non-Intervention."
This grand finale was the culmination of highly competitive initial stages held on July 4, 2026, where 14 talented teams demonstrated their legal acumen across two preliminary rounds, followed by rigorous quarter-finals and semi-finals.
To ensure the highest level of performance, the groundwork for these rounds had been laid weeks earlier on June 17, 2026, when the organizers hosted a preparatory training workshop that equipped over 150 students with vital skills in international mooting, legal research, memorial drafting, and oral advocacy.
Reflecting on the entire event, the speakers collectively emphasized the crucial role of moot courts in bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical legal advocacy, praising the initiative and expressing their shared optimism that such rigorous platforms will play a definitive role in shaping the next generation of skilled lawyers, legal researchers, and jurists.
