In celebration of the World IP Day, the NSUCLR successfully hosted an engaging session, titled, “Intellectual Property in Sports: Exploring Opportunities and Challenges in Bangladesh.”

The session featured distinguished speakers, Ms. Mahua Zahur, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Md. Belal Hossen, Assistant Director (Trademarks, WTO and International Affairs), Ministry of Industries.

The event was graced by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, North South University as the Chief Guest, alongside Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Professor Rizwanul Islam, Dean, NSUSHSS as Special Guests.

The submission deadline for the Undergraduate Law Symposium, Spring 2026 has now been extended to April 25, 2026.

The Department of Law and the Center for Legal Research at North South University invite submissions for the Undergraduate Law Symposium, Spring 2026. Open to all LLB programme students in Bangladesh, the symposium welcomes brief papers on any aspect of the Bangladesh legal system, comparative law, international legal issues, or interdisciplinary studies related to law.

Participants are required to submit original papers with a word limit of 3000 words, excluding the abstract and footnotes. All submissions will undergo a selection process, and authors of the selected papers will be invited to present their work at the symposium.

In addition to academic recognition, a prize pool worth 27,000 BDT awaits the winners.

Interested students are encouraged to submit their papers within the revised deadline.

A public lecture on “Asylum under International Refugee Law and in South Asia: A Comparative Analysis” was successfully organized by the Bangladesh Center for Refugee Law Studies in collaboration with the NSU Center for Legal Research on 10th April 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at the Moot Court Room (NAC 616).

The session was delivered by Dr. Simon Behrman, Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, offering valuable insights into the interpretation and application of asylum laws within international and South Asian contexts.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam, Professor of Law & Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The session concluded with closing remarks delivered by Sakhawat Sajjat Sejan, Founder of the Bangladesh Center for Refugee Law Studies.

The lecture fostered meaningful discussion and enhanced understanding of comparative refugee law among participants.

We are pleased to announce a Public Lecture hosted by Bangladesh Center for Refugee Law Studies in collaboration with the North South University Center for Legal Research. The session, titled “Asylum under International Refugee Law and in South Asia: A Comparative Analysis” will be held on 10th April, 2026 at 10:00 AM in the Moot Court Room (NAC 616).

The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Simon Behrman, Associate Professor, School of Law, University of Warwick. This session promises insightful discussions on how asylum is defined and implemented under international refugee law and how South Asian countries apply or differ from those standards.

The Department of Law and the Center for Legal Research, North South University, invites the submission of brief papers for the upcoming Undergraduate Law Symposium Spring 2026, on any aspect of the Bangladeshi legal system, comparative law, international legal matters, or interdisciplinary study of law.

However, a topic exclusively dealing with any national jurisdiction other than Bangladesh would not qualify.

The selected papers will be called for presentation at the North South University campus. Only those residing outside Dhaka will be allowed to present online.

Any student enrolled in an LL.B. (Honors) programme in a Bangladeshi institution would be eligible to submit a paper.

The word limit for the paper is maximum 3,000 words (excluding abstract and footnotes), with the abstract not being more than 150 words.

The page format should be A4 size with 1.5-line spacing and 12-point, Times New Roman font. The font for footnotes should be 10-point, Times New Roman.

The citation style should be in conformity with the Bangladesh Style of Citation of Legal Authorities (BSCLA) or Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA).

Each paper must have a title.

Participants are required to submit their papers in MS Word format.

Any personal identification information of the author (such as their name, the name of their university, and so on) should not be present in the paper submitted. Any paper containing the aforementioned information may not be accepted.

The deadline for submission of papers is 11th April, 2026.

Only selected papers will be called for the presentation. The selected authors will be notified within 1 (one) week after the deadline of submission for a presentation at North South University.

The winners, to be chosen by a panel of experts, will receive a Cash prize of 10,000tk for the champion, 9,000tk for the 1st runner-up, and 8,000tk for the 2nd runner-up, along with crests and certificates.

The North South University Center For Legal Research (NSU CLR), a research wing of the Department of Law of North South University has successfully hosted a special session by UNODC titled “Preventing and Addressing Trafficking in Human Beings and Smuggling of Migrants in South Asia” on 16th January, 2026 at the Department.

The representatives of the UNODC elaborated on their activities and journey in Bangladesh. Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam, Professor of Law and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at North South University, moderated the session.

Enthusiastic students attended the seminar. It offered an excellent opportunity for students to learn about UNODC programs and engage in valuable discussions on how UNODC supports the victims of such crimes and addresses these issues.
