🇧🇩🤝🇨🇳 BIDA to Work with CCPIT to Strengthen Bangladesh-China Investment Relations

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) will work closely with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), China’s national foreign trade and investment promotion agency, to further strengthen investment ties between Bangladesh and China.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on this cooperation was signed in Beijing during the Hon’ble Chief Adviser’s visit to China last month. The agreement was signed by Ren Hongbin, Chairman of CCPIT, and Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of BIDA.

Under this partnership, BIDA and CCPIT will collaborate on:

Investment promotion
Business matchmaking and networking
Exchange of business delegations
Sharing of policy and market-related information

This partnership is particularly significant as BIDA prepares to launch its first overseas investment office in China. It is expected to create a more direct and effective connection between Chinese investors and the investment opportunities available in Bangladesh.

Together, Bangladesh and China are opening new avenues for investment, trade, and economic cooperation.

Bangladesh on the Path to a Unified Investment Authority

Yesterday, the Invest Bangladesh Bill, 2026 was passed by the National Parliament. Under this law, the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), and the Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) will be merged to form the country’s premier investment promotion agency, “Invest Bangladesh,” under the Prime Minister’s Office.

“We are grateful for the government’s clear focus on initiatives that can have a real impact on attracting private investment, supporting investors, and strengthening policy advocacy. To achieve the country’s growth and employment objectives, Bangladesh needs the level of investment that can only be secured through a truly effective one-stop service framework for investors,” said Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of BIDA and BEZA and Chief Executive Officer of PPPA.

He further stated:

“Such an integrated investment agency has long been recommended by both domestic and foreign investors. Following its review of Bangladesh’s business environment reforms, UNCTAD also recommended this consolidation. We believe that Invest Bangladesh will be able to serve investors more effectively and present Bangladesh’s value proposition more strongly in the increasingly competitive global investment landscape.”

Key Features of the Invest Bangladesh Bill

🏭 Integrated Industrial Zones
The law provides an opportunity to bring economic zones, free trade zones, and other declared industrial areas under a unified framework.

🧩 Service Integration
It enables the determination of procedures and timelines for licenses, approvals, and service delivery.

🏗️ PPP Approvals
The law establishes an approval framework and facilitates simplified approvals for small-scale PPP projects through the relevant ministries or divisions.

🏛️ Utilization of Idle Government Assets
Unused government land, buildings, shares, and other assets can be utilized for productive economic activities.

📱 Single Digital Platform
All investment and business-related services will be brought under a unified digital platform.

The law will come into effect on a date to be specified through a government gazette notification. It is also planned that Invest Bangladesh will formally commence its operations under its new identity at the same time.
