Before steel reaches site on a major project like the RAAF Base Wagga redevelopment, substantial legal, commercial, and operational work is already underway, and that work continues throughout delivery.

The redevelopment of RAAF Base Wagga is a major component of the broader Riverina Redevelopment Joint Venture, which involves a capital investment of approximately $1.8 billion. The redevelopment includes major upgrades and the replacement of existing infrastructure and facilities to strengthen Defence capability for the next 30 years.

I am pleased to be advising Absolute Mesh and Steel on the supply of over 500 tonnes of locally supplied steel on a major project like the RAAF Base Wagga redevelopment.

On major infrastructure projects, supply isn't just about product and delivery. It comes down to having the right contractual settings in place around scope, specifications, timing, payment, delivery obligations, performance requirements, variations, delay exposure, warranties, indemnities, liability and risk allocation.

Commlex's role includes supporting AMS throughout the project lifecycle, from the early contract and supply arrangements through to ongoing advice on contract administration, performance obligations, project communications, payment processes, variations and risk management as the project progresses.

That ongoing support helps keep expectations clear, makes sure rights and obligations are properly managed, and helps the supply arrangements hold up on a project of this scale.

It's also great to see the redevelopment supporting local industry in such a substantial way, with businesses like Absolute Mesh and Steel a clear example of that. This kind of local supply reflects the broader benefits major Defence infrastructure projects bring, including support for Australian industry, regional participation, and domestic supply chain capability.
