At 2:00pm AEST on Monday, 27 July, the Australian Government will be conducting a nationwide AusAlert test. During this test, compatible mobile phones will emit a warning sound and display a test emergency alert.
For many people, this will simply be a routine test. However, for those experiencing domestic and family violence, this alert could present a serious safety risk.
If you have a hidden or emergency phone, please be aware that the alert may still sound even if your phone is on silent or set to "Do Not Disturb."
If it is safe for you to do so, consider:
📱 Turning the phone off before 2:00pm and leaving it off until the testing period has finished.
If it is not safe to turn the phone off completely, Government spokespersons have advised that placing the phone into Airplane Mode at least one hour before the test and leaving it in Airplane Mode for 24 hours after the test should prevent the alert from sounding.
If neither option is safe or practical, consider leaving the phone with someone you trust until after the testing period has passed.
