🎬 Law, film and the power of storytelling

Last night, Fiona, Adrianna and Elly attended the Queensland Fringe where they had the opportunity to sit in on a fascinating conversation with Stephen Roche, lawyer and Executive Producer and Scott Corfield, Producer of the film Don’t Tell.

The discussion offered a unique insight into bringing such an important and confronting local true story to the screen and the role that both law and storytelling can play in giving survivors a voice and shining a light on injustice.

🎥 About Don’t Tell
Based on true events, Don’t Tell follows Lyndal, a young woman who survived sexual abuse while attending a prestigious school and her fight for justice with the support of local lawyer Stephen Roche. The Australian courtroom film tells a powerful story of courage, speaking out and holding institutions to account.

A thought-provoking evening for Fiona, Adrianna and Elly and a great opportunity to hear directly from two of the people behind a significant Australian film.

When institutions fail to protect vulnerable children, transparency and accountability must come first.

The tragic death of a four-year-old boy in Wyong has prompted difficult questions about whether more could have been done to intervene. As an independent review examines the Department's involvement, a broader issue also emerges. Should institutions be able to rely on legal professional privilege to shield systemic failures from scrutiny?

In this latest article, our Abuse Law team explores why legal rights and public accountability must be carefully balanced, and why legal loopholes should never stand in the way of learning from institutional failures or delivering justice for victims and survivors.
