Property settlement is the final stage in the conveyancing transaction. It involves the legal transfer of property from the seller to the buyer. But when exactly does this happen, and when can you collect your keys?

Typically, the settlement period in NSW is between 30 to 90 days. This duration is agreed upon by both parties involved and is set out in the Contract of Sale. It's during this period that all the necessary paperwork is finalised, mortgages are arranged, and any checks or searches are conducted.

On the day of settlement, all outstanding payments are made, and property titles and other legal documents are exchanged.

Once this process is successfully completed, congratulations - the property is officially yours! You can now collect the keys to your new home from the real estate agent.
