People sometimes assume that I’m wealthy because I own my own business (in fact I had a person suggest this just the other day).
They are very wrong, I am far from wealthy, but I am rich. I’m rich because my world is filled with the best that life can bring. Not the type of best many may think. If you confuse the best as being the best restaurants, the best designer clothes, facials, cars, houses, upper class associates, best clubs, church, family name, neighbourhood, school etc…
Then I am sorry for you because if thats your version of ‘The Best’ then you are more delusional than the most psychotic person that I have ever encountered.
The best that makes me rich are the people who I meet that entrust their most vulnerable thoughts, emotions, & experiences with me. Words & thoughts that are so hard to say out loud that it steals a persons breath!
Wealth does not equate to riches just as attitudes of enlightenment does not equate to rights.
Wealth can buy you diamonds, pearls, opals & other fine gems. But the value of these items is lost in the flashy showcase, the price tag, the box & flashy wrapping.
The true value, the richness of a diamond is the process of its creation around 200km beneath the earths surface. The subjection of carbon atoms to unbearable heat & pressure over millions of years before its pushed toward the surface via volcanic eruptions to someday be found by human hands.
What about that natural pearl? It started as a bit of grit or debris that got stuck inside the shell of an oyster. Unable to get rid of the irritant the oyster doesn’t waste time trying to push it away. Instead, it creates a protective pocket, a boundary between it & the problem so as not to be impacted by the abrasiveness. In time, within the space of the oysters shell the invader grows and smooths to become what we know to be a pearl.
And that opal? Opals require time, so much time; deep underground in cavities containing grains of silica within solid rock that becomes saturated with rain water seeping through those layers & then the water evaporates over time leaving the silica to layer into neat stacks forming tiny wavy prisms transforming into amazing light catching colours we know as opals.
What does this have to do with the richness of my world & why my interpretation of being rich beats the s**t out of being wealthy?
I’ve got to meet lots of wealthy people that own diamonds, pearls & opals but very few of these people know the true value of these gems beyond the price they paid.
The best of the best of the people I get to call my patients - the ones who come to trust me with their breathe, their silence that comes before being able to find words to match their feelings & memories. The moments that the holding of their breathe & silence feels uncomfortable & awkward but still safe. These people are my diamonds, pearls & opals. Grown from darkness, pressure, heat & grit in a different type of underground or deep water to those other gems.
These are my people; strong, rough, brave, gritty, uncut. Made from pressure & determination that the wealthy, entitled, polished class will never understand. Those poor wealthy bastards don’t know what they are missing. I’m glad this is where I am.
Why?
Cause I Can! 😊☕️
