There will be changes to 457 visa July 2013 so that there will be an emphasis on compliance and a strenghening of the infringement system to stop abuse of the 457 programme (http:/www.immi.gov.strenghening-integrity-457-program.htm).

Issues around the use of workers holding a Subclass 457 visa have dominated immigration related discourse over the past several weeks, and those with competing perspectives had a chance for their voices to be heard last week.

The Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee on Friday 26 April closed submissions to its Inquiry into the Framework and operation of Subclass 457 visas, Enterprise Migration Agreements and Regional Migration Agreements, which looked at the structure and operations of the temporary sponsored work regime.

In total, 22 organisations and individuals made submissions, including the MIA, industry groups, unions and academic institutions.
