HIGHLIGHTS OF NEW TEMPORARY PARENT VISA

- Sponsorship applications (fee $420) - open on 17 April, 2019
- Visa applications (fee $5,000-10,000) - open on 1 July, 2019
- Duration 3 to 5 years
- A parent will be able to hold visas up to a total stay in Australia of 10 years
- A parent must be outside Australia for at least 90 days before being eligible to apply for a second Temporary Parent Visa
- No balance of family test
- No sponsorship bond
- No Medicare
- No work rights
- Required to maintain health insurance
- Required police clearances from the sponsoring child
- 15,000 places available per financial year
- Combined annual income required for the sponsoring child AU$83,500 (Announced on 05/04/2019)

AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT TO CUT PERMANENT MIGRATION BY 30,000, FROM 190,000 TO 160,000

The proposed cap matches last year's actual intake of 162,000;
Incentives to foreign students to attend universities away from the two major cities, Sydney & Melbourne;
Regional Settlement Policy would require a certain number of skilled migrants to live for at least five years in cities other than Sydney & Melbourne.

The federal government is set to slash Australia's annual migration intake as the Prime Minister denies that concerns about congestion are driven by racism.

AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP LAW CHANGES MEAN MIGRANTS WILL FACE TOUGHER TESTS. Among the critical changes; (1) Permanent residency requirement will increase from 1 to 4 years; (2) Introducing an English language Test, there was no such requirement before. Most of the applicants may be struggling with this requirement (3) Tougher citizenship test. Only two chances are given to sit for the test. After two unsuccessful attempts, two year waiting before attempting another test. (4) Other requirements might pose difficulties but might be able to get through.
