Planning for what happens after you’re gone can be difficult to think about, but having a will can help make things clearer for the people you leave behind.

Wills and Estates Law is often confusing which is why our volunteers are dedicated to making information about wills straightforward and accessible.

At the Noble Park Volunteer Legal Service, we believe that access to justice is essential for a healthy legal system. That’s why we’re committed to providing legal advice at no cost – “to provide information to people who really need it,” says Gamini Jayasinghe.

Many thanks to our hard-working student lawyers Angelina and Grace (both 3rd year Monash Law students) who volunteer on Wednesday nights at the Noble Park Volunteer Legal Service. They are quickly becoming adept across a range of practice areas including Family Law, Criminal Law and Wills & Estates. Our volunteers have seized the opportunity and privilege to apply their practical legal skills to those less fortunate or otherwise without access to justice.

Introducing Monique Selcuk, a 3rd year Law (Hons) student from Monash University. Monique has been a volunteer at NPVLS since we first started in September last year. Always with a smile, a sympathetic ear, and diligent focus, we’re lucky to have her. NPVLS is just as important to the student volunteers who learn vital legal skills in a socially conscious setting.

Family violence can take many forms including behaviour such as physical or sexual abuse, emotional or psychological abuse, financial abuse or coercive control.

There are several options available to you if you are experiencing such behaviour:
• Contacting Victoria Police who may apply for an intervention order for your protection and/or other vulnerable family members;
• Visiting the intervention order registry at your local Magistrates Court to make an application yourself.
• You can also apply online through your local Magistrates Court for an intervention order.

If you consider your matter is not urgent, it is beneficial for you to be better informed of the court process, possible outcomes, potential cost, timeframe etc before you follow any of the above processes.

If you live in Noble Park and are seeking information or advice about an intervention order, feel free to make an appointment with us for our Wednesday evening service using the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSecL7xzpfBwkMeFi_D58UfvY7nc39JUbzmE6anz_ogbBN9DPQ/viewform

N.B. If your matter is urgent and you or your family members are in imminent danger, call Victoria Police on 000 immediately.
