At what age should I start thinking about a Will?

There is no single ‘right age’ to make a will, and it is often earlier than many people expect.

A common misconception is that estate planning and will-making are only relevant later in life and that younger adults do not have enough assets for a will to be necessary. In reality, that isn’t always the case.

You may not own a home, but you are still likely to have assets such as superannuation, a savings account, a vehicle or personal items of value, all of which form part of your estate.

Life can be unpredictable, and estate planning is something worth considering once you reach adulthood and start to have assets or any specific wishes about what happens to your estate.

In Australia, anyone who is 18 years or older and has testamentary capacity can make a valid will.
