👶 A baby isn’t a tiny 10-year-old.

[So why would we expect the same parenting arrangement to work for both?]

When children are very young, their routines, attachments and developmental stage can all be really important when working out what time with each parent should look like.

That might mean:

🏠 a primary home base
💛 shorter, more frequent visits with the other parent
🌱 gradually changing the arrangement as they get older

And that last bit is important.

The arrangement you make now doesn’t have to be the arrangement forever.

It can grow with your child.

Because parenting arrangements shouldn’t be about making the calendar look perfectly “fair”.

They should be about what works for [this child] at [this age] and [this stage].

What if you could sort your separation out in a weekend?

Not every separation needs months and months of emails, appointments and back-and-forth.

Sometimes, both people are ready to make decisions and move forward, they just need the right structure and professional support to actually get there.

That’s the idea behind The Resolution Weekend.

One focused weekend to work through the issues, have the conversations and, where possible, reach an agreement. And formalise it.

It won’t suit every separation. But for the right people, we think it is a pretty good way of doing family law.

🏦 The Bank of Mum & Dad is open for business…

But is that money a [gift] or a [loan]? 👀

It might not feel particularly important when Mum & Dad are happily helping with a house deposit or renovations.

Then someone separates. 💔

Suddenly everyone wants to know exactly what that $50k, $100k or $200k was supposed to be.

🎁 A gift that never had to be repaid?

📝 A genuine loan that was always expected to come back?

“We all knew what we meant” can be surprisingly complicated a few years down the track.

Our advice?

Have the slightly awkward conversation while nobody is arguing.

And if it’s supposed to be a loan, document it properly.

Future you [and Mum & Dad] will likely thank you for it. 😅

A bit of a fangirl moment for the ARFL team this week… 🤭📸

Allison, Libbie and Annabelle attended the ALPMA Summit in Geelong and had the opportunity to hear the incredible Dr Jana Pittman speak.

And WOW. We were in awe.

🏃‍♀️ World champion athlete
🛷 Summer AND Winter Olympian
🩺 Doctor
👩‍👧‍👦 Mum of six
💪 And someone who has had to reinvent herself, overcome setbacks and change direction more than once.

Jana spoke about resilience, leadership and reinvention, and what it looks like to keep moving forward when life doesn’t follow the path you expected.

One message really stuck with us: changing direction isn’t necessarily starting again.

Sometimes it’s taking everything you’ve learnt with you and using it to build what comes next.

Such an inspiring keynote and definitely one of the highlights of a brilliant few days at ALPMA Summit. ✨

And yes… we absolutely had to ask for a photo! 😂
