11 YEARS OLD, AND OUT OF TIME đ
URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED!
Darling Akira is 11 years old and has found herself surrendered to the local pound due to no fault of her own. This pound is extremely full, with a large number of strays, and unfortunately for Akira, her time is up; the pound staff have reached out to us for help as Akira will be euthanised in the next few days unless we can find placement for her.
Akira has once been a loved dog, we have been provided with her full vet history, her every need taken care of until she was 10 years old, and then the last year⌠nothing, as she has aged and her health declined, the vet visits stopped, and then she has been taken to the pound. We canât fathom ever leaving a dog in a pound, but especially an 11-year-old who was loved for many years. We wish her owners had reached out earlier, so it didnât have to end like this. We are desperately seeking a foster or foster to adopt home for Akira, we need to get her out ASAP to save her life.
Akira has arthritis and has been without her regular pain relief injections for the last year, despite this, she gets around reasonably well and is still a busy little girl, she is carrying some extra weight which will be putting additional pressure on her joints. Akira currently has an ear infection; like most older dogs, her eyesight and hearing is starting to decline. We will support Akiraâs health conditions to ensure she is comfortable and her every need met.
Akira is friendly with people; however, she is a little lost in the pound wondering what she did to end up there and right now is a little scattered; she is fine with being patted and general handling, however her ears and hips are sore, she isnât a big fan of vet visits right now.
Whilst Akira hasnât given us any concern with people, we feel she would be best suited to a home with calm, older children that understand gentle pats and when to give her space, we are looking for a home where everyone is over the age of 8.
Akira has lived a sheltered life without the company of another dog, whilst she can walk past them at a distance and ignore them, she is not happy having other dogs up close and is more comfortable if they keep their distance. Akira is looking for a home where she will be the only dog, she hasnât been tested with cats or other small animals.
GSRV will ensure Akira has everything she needs, we just need a soft place for her to land; we would love to find her somewhere permanent where she can live out her days with our full support, but right now, any temporary foster options would also be helpful, we are running out of time.
If you can offer Akira a warm, loving place to stay and can take her in ASAP â please complete a foster application via our website www.gsrv.com.au â if you have previously completed a foster or adoption application and can help Akira, please email [email protected] and we will be in touch!
If you canât foster, please share her post far and wide, help us find a foster hero that can save Akiraâs life!
