11 YEARS OLD, AND OUT OF TIME 💔
URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED!

Darling Akira is 11 years old and has found herself surrendered to the local pound due to no fault of her own. This pound is extremely full, with a large number of strays, and unfortunately for Akira, her time is up; the pound staff have reached out to us for help as Akira will be euthanised in the next few days unless we can find placement for her.

Akira has once been a loved dog, we have been provided with her full vet history, her every need taken care of until she was 10 years old, and then the last year… nothing, as she has aged and her health declined, the vet visits stopped, and then she has been taken to the pound. We can’t fathom ever leaving a dog in a pound, but especially an 11-year-old who was loved for many years. We wish her owners had reached out earlier, so it didn’t have to end like this. We are desperately seeking a foster or foster to adopt home for Akira, we need to get her out ASAP to save her life.

Akira has arthritis and has been without her regular pain relief injections for the last year, despite this, she gets around reasonably well and is still a busy little girl, she is carrying some extra weight which will be putting additional pressure on her joints. Akira currently has an ear infection; like most older dogs, her eyesight and hearing is starting to decline. We will support Akira’s health conditions to ensure she is comfortable and her every need met.

Akira is friendly with people; however, she is a little lost in the pound wondering what she did to end up there and right now is a little scattered; she is fine with being patted and general handling, however her ears and hips are sore, she isn’t a big fan of vet visits right now.

Whilst Akira hasn’t given us any concern with people, we feel she would be best suited to a home with calm, older children that understand gentle pats and when to give her space, we are looking for a home where everyone is over the age of 8.

Akira has lived a sheltered life without the company of another dog, whilst she can walk past them at a distance and ignore them, she is not happy having other dogs up close and is more comfortable if they keep their distance. Akira is looking for a home where she will be the only dog, she hasn’t been tested with cats or other small animals.

GSRV will ensure Akira has everything she needs, we just need a soft place for her to land; we would love to find her somewhere permanent where she can live out her days with our full support, but right now, any temporary foster options would also be helpful, we are running out of time.

If you can offer Akira a warm, loving place to stay and can take her in ASAP – please complete a foster application via our website www.gsrv.com.au – if you have previously completed a foster or adoption application and can help Akira, please email [email protected] and we will be in touch!

If you can’t foster, please share her post far and wide, help us find a foster hero that can save Akira’s life!

Last weekend I had the privilege of graduating from the University of Oxford with a Master of Science in Major Programme Management.

What began two years ago as an ambitious academic undertaking became a genuinely transformative experience - challenging, thought-provoking, and deeply rewarding. The programme brought together an exceptional cohort from around the world, and the discussions, debates, and friendships formed along the way were every bit as valuable as the formal learning.

Grateful to the team at SaĂŻd Business School, University of Oxford, my dissertation supervisor, Dr Kate Blackmon and to my colleagues and friends who made the journey such a memorable one.

A trailblazing model manager and champion for diversity in the industry claims caucasian models are missing out on jobs because the Australian fashion scene is too focused on ticking inclusivity boxes. > https://bit.ly/4aOSh1b

Deeply embarrassed? Blaming “medication” for a drink-driving charge, particularly from the Premier’s household, undermines the very road safety messages the government spruiks to everyone else!

With great sadness I note the passing yesterday of my friend, Greg MacAleese, aged 78 — the Founder of Crime Stoppers.

Greg was a visionary and compassionate man who, in 1976 while serving as a detective with the Albuquerque Police Department and investigating the tragic murder of a college student, conceived a simple but revolutionary idea: that ordinary people, when given a safe and anonymous way to speak up, could help solve serious crime.

That idea became Crime Stoppers — now a global movement operating in more than 1,800 communities worldwide, responsible for solving hundreds of thousands of cases and making neighbourhoods safer for millions.

Greg’s legacy is one of courage, innovation and unwavering belief in the power of community. His impact will be felt for generations.

Rest in peace, Greg. You truly made the world a better, safer place.

🇦🇺 In Victoria we are:
Over Governed.
Over Taxed.
Over Regulated.
Emergency Services Tax is overdone,
Our EBA is nearly 6yrs over-due,
Lawyers attacking Firefighters in the courts (using Public Money), are over-paid!
Firefighters are overwrought,
And we are all over Jacinta Allan! 🚒
Over and out.

As a Life Member of The Oxford Union, I voted in favour of the motion to remove president-elect, George Abaraonye. This was a necessary and principled decision to uphold the Union’s integrity and to reaffirm that those elected to office must meet the highest standards of conduct.

This decision will help restore trust in our governance and ensure the Union remains a place where divergent views can be contested — but where the basic values of decency and respectful discourse are upheld.

By taking this stand, members have made clear that accountability and respect are the cornerstones of our community.
