Many of my friends are going back to their offices this week. Shiny, sparkly, disinfected offices. During this lockdown, the conversations about family responsibilities, working from home while homeschooling, and women ‘carrying the mental load’ have been an overwhelming reminder that sometimes, we are our own worst enemies when it comes to being ‘busy’. The office return is a big step in the post-covid return to ‘normality’. And it’s an opportunity. Let’s not fall back into the same routines, of trying to make everything perfect and getting it all done in one day. Nothing is perfect and never will be. Move something off the list, and add self care as an important thing to do every single day. I am lucky enough to have some fantastic women in my life. Some of them know how much I care and some probably don’t. Some are my mentors and some I’ve mentored too. All independent, all supportive, all take no sh*t from anyone. We rise each other up and in the process ascend ourselves. And we all have the right to be all of those things. The right to freedom of association and freedom of movement and religion. We have access to healthcare and to education and food and we get to question our leaders and we get to lead. There are so so many girls and women around the world who don’t have any of these. Yep, you should’ve called me first! 🤣 it’s a Happy Hump Day here at JRA Legal because it’s TEN YEARS TODAY since I was admitted to practice as a lawyer in NSW!!!! I had no idea whether I would ever practice as a lawyer but I was drawn by the need to find a way to serve our beautiful community and I wanted to be equipped with the knowledge to do so.
