For many of us, our pets aren’t just animals. They’re family. ❤️

Since changes to the Family Law Act, pets can now be referred to as ‘companion animals’. This means that when deciding what happens to a pet after a separation, the Court can consider factors such as the pet's wellbeing and its bond with each person, especially children.

There has also been a significant push by the Federal Government to see pets included in Family Violence Intervention Orders, so that fear of a pet being hurt or left in a dangerous home won’t stop someone from leaving an unsafe situation.

Worried that separating from your partner means you’ll lose your children?

That’s not how the family law system works.

When parents separate, the Court focuses on what is best for the children. Depending on the situation, this might mean the children live mostly with Mum, mostly with Dad, or spend time with both parents.

Every family is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all arrangement.

The Brisbane Lions are through to the AFL Men’s Grand Final for the fourth year in a row! Will they bring home the premiership for a third time? 🏆

We know plenty of you will be watching on Saturday to find out!

Grand Final day is a time for celebration for most of us. But it’s also one of the most dangerous days of the year for many women and children. 💔

Statistics from previous years suggest police can expect a 20% spike in family violence incidents on Grand Final day, and family violence services often see a 30-40% increase in calls for help over the weekend.

So what can you do to help someone who may be at risk?

💛 Check in during or after the game. Even a simple “Thinking of you, how’s the day going?” can open a door without putting anyone on the spot.

💛 Don’t wait for certainty before acting. If you see or hear something concerning next door, call 000 straight away.

💛 Offer a low-key exit in advance. “Come over for the game” or “Call me anytime, no questions asked” can give someone a genuine way out.

💛 Share this post on your Instagram story or page. You never know who might need it.
