UAE CLOSE TO FINALISING NEW BANKRUPTCY LAW

The UAE is close to finalising an updated federal bankruptcy law and a draft of the legislation should be ready by the end of this year.
The draft, which has been in the works since 2009, should enable both listed and family-owned companies in the UAE to be rescued rather than having to go through lengthy bankruptcy or liquidation proceedings.

BAHRAIN APPROVES NEW CONSUMER PROTECTION LAW
Bahrain is to introduce a new consumer protection law this year, giving authorities the right to inspect retailers’ products. The new rules, approved by the Shura Council, will allow the Industry and Commerce Ministry to assign inspectors to check shops and businesses on a regular basis and scrutinise their existing products.
Inspectors with judiciary authorities will have the right to take action where businesses have violated the laws, but they will need to provide substantial evidence.

False absconder complaint liable to be seen as forgery. If it is proved to the Ministry of Labour that the absconder complaint made by a sponsor is false, such complaint will be deemed to be forgery in an official document and the ministry may transfer the person who filed the false complaint to the Public Prosecution.
